Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus. The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.

Beautiful city, located close to lots of sight seeing locations. Highly recommend going to the Eagles Nest (The Kehlsteinhaus), it’s a short bus ride and you can walk up from The Documentation station without paying insane guided tour prices. I got from Salzburg, up and back for under €30. Took me 1 hour, 40 minutes to walk to the top.

I love Salzburg. It is beautiful in any season.
I love Salzburg. It is beautiful in any season. The old town with its churches, galleries, coffee shops and magnificent castle on the top of the rocks. We took the Festungbahn to the castle and had a lovely dinner with a view on the top of the rocks. We also strolled through the old town and took part in the 10 k Hervis run so we could see the mountains and the residential parts of Salzburg. We arrived by train and the journey was quite quick and easy. We had late breakfast at Café Tomaselli. Great coffee and cakes with a view from a balcony. Beautiful scenery. Fun Sound of Music tour taken with Panorama tours (I’d recommend them). Lots of interesting places to view and visit. Great for walks and cafe/bar stops along the routes. We went by train to Vienna for a day trip and took a bus tour around the city. A full day and a little tiring but well worth it. Reception staff at the hotel booked the train and taxi tickets for us which was very helpful.

The most wonderful little jewel. Such a pretty town with so much to explore but all fairly compact. Loved the river trip. Loved the lift up to the top of the Munchsburg, the beautiful walks and the great little cafe at the top. Loved the Hohensalzburg fortress and all the history.
