The real joy of Vitoria-Gasteiz is wandering unhurriedly around medieval cobbled streets named after professions once performed there. Stone buildings, an arched gate with a portcullis, and steps climbing gentle hills all add to the atmosphere of life in years gone by.
But that doesn’t mean the Basque Country capital isn’t modern in outlook. In fact, the moving walkway ascending a hill is a stroke of genius. The Europa Conference and Exhibition Centre is a state-of-the-art events venue, and Artium is an innovative collection of Basque Contemporary Art.
Vitoria-Gasteiz also has a fine art museum, near the Basque Parliament building, but the historic charms are the real draw. The old cathedral dates to the 14th century, while the new Cathedral of Mary Immaculate is an impressive neo-Gothic structure. Nearby houses have brightly painted murals which tell a story, best explained on a walking tour.
Porticoed buildings line elegant Plaza de España, and next door is Plaza de la Virgen Blanca with its boxed balconies. Pavement cafes and bars overlook the Monument to Independence, an event commemorated in a Beethoven symphony. A more unusual sight is the museum celebrating the city’s role in playing card production.

Busy little town with lots of restaurants and interesting buildings. Tourists information was brilliant and highly recommend to visit it first. Clean and tidy town with all buildings well kept up with lots of character.

In keeping with the great Basque cities on the coast, the old town offered great food/pintxo's but at more affordable prices. The city is beautiful and compact and better for not being on the main tourist trail. I would suggest Vitoria-Gasteiz is ideal for a short stay or as a longer stay base to explore both the coast and Rioja Alavas region.

Catedral de Santa Maria is unique. It has to be seen. That alone is worth visiting Vitoria-Gasteiz.
It is easy to get around the city on foot.

I was amazed at what a beautiful part of Spain this was. Having never been to this part of the country I was frankly blown away. It is now on my list of places to return to and explore. A really beautiful part of Spain.
The place is very clean and if you did not know you were in Spain it could be easily be mistaken for Austria. Beautiful.

Beautiful old town with atmospheric streets and excellent restaurants. Some good artwork in the Bellas Artes museum. Terrorism museum excellent and worth a lot of time. Avoid Artium _ pretentious crap installations with no explanations other than brief bits of cliched jargon. External murals around the city were well worth seeking out. Cathedral tour was very good. Great tapas bars. Vitoria was a city which exceeded my expectations

Excellent room with good size bed, air-conditioning, large bathroom with walk-in shower, good variety of food at breakfast, also dinner menu in cafe was great. Staff were very friendly and loved our pet cat who stayed in the room at no extra charge. Also parking next to the hotel was free of charge.
Only downside was the location opposite the huge Mercedes factory and the building site next door so the exterior of hotel was not inviting but hotel interior is very stylish and spacious.
Definitely recommend!
I did not even know about Vitoria-Gasteiz until a couple of years ago and was surprised to learn that it is the capital of the Basque community. But apart from that fact, the historic core of the city is quite pleasant and interesting. This city is also a good point for day-trips to Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, which offers a delight of pintxos and wines. But I found the historic center of Vitoria to be more inviting actually. The Monkey House apt is perfect for enjoying all Vitoria to the fullest.
I just needed a place to stay for a night and booked Habitaka as it was inexpensive and in the middle of the old town. The place was so nice that I stayed another night and could have stayed much longer!
The quality of the room rivals and exceeds that of much more expensive hotels - modern, classy, and with a lovely little kitchen area that's complete with a supply of coffee and even some wine.
It works great as a short-stay apartment if you want to hang out for a few days.
We stayed in Gobeo Park for 1 night during our trip from Portugal to France. The hotel is located very well for this purpose: close to the motorway. The big advantage of the hotel is the restaurant which is open till 23:00 because many other restaurants around were closed in August. The staff is very helpful: the safety box is our room was broken and the lady from the reception helped us immediately to fix it.
Hotel looks very new, clean, modern and has plenty of space in our room with really big TV. Bed and pillow are very comfortable, parking is free around the hotel building. The hotel is located outside of the town in mostly industry area but within walking distance about 30mins. There is huge shopping mall near by with supermarket. Cleaning lady working there was very nice and helpful.
everything was clean and comfortable. I booked the hotel cause my husband was racing ironman vitoria. the location was literally 5 minutes walk from the finish line of the race and from the city center. the breakfast was really tasty. plenty of options. the staff were absolutely helpful and friendly. this is your place to stay if you’re thinking of visiting vitoria.
it was comfortable BUT we had booked the suites with use of the kitchen, but were told we could not use the kitchen, even if we paid extra. Booking.com is at fault here, in not making it clear that use of the kitchen is only available for a 4 night stay. The hotel staff told us to take it up with booking.com.
I stayed Victoria for 3 nights with my friends, we really love the hotel service, people are very nice. My room is big enough, also the big window gave me a beautiful viewing of sunset . In the roof of the building, there is a swimming poor , pity that this time no water. Hopefully next time.
It’s was a nice, neat and absolutely clean hotel with easy auto check in facility. The location was pretty good, close to the train station and downtown.
There is a little bar right in front which is nice to try.
It was a great place for a short stay. Thank you.
Lovely room with veranda balcony including table and chairs. Very close to centre. Enjoyed the 'classical' decorations in the hotel. I arrived at the coach station which required a tram ride to centre, I noticed that the train station is close to the hotel.
The staff was really helpful and nice. The Hotel is not a luxury but for what you pay you are well served. Although it is cheap it does not have a cheap look, it doesn't neglect the basics and you are very well treated.
The hotel is conveniently close to the old town and we liked the interior decoration in the reception and hallways. The room was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was great.
Great Hotel, with a fantastic style and great location near downtown Vitoria-Gasteiz and the cathedrals. Staff was lovely and very helpful. Easy to get to get around by taking the tram a couple blocks away.
The hotel is in an apartment building and upstairs there were normal flats with families living in it that were super noisy and there's nothing you can do about it.
Restaurant facilities good. I have stayed at this hotel twice. Room was large and comfortable, the bar had a good choice of beers. Pleased with both overnights...
Modern hotel, easy to find. Not in centre but very good transport links close by. Helpful staff at reception, clean comfortable room. Good shower, good Wi-Fi.
Very attractive and stylish rooms and a friendly welcome from the host and bar staff. The hotel seems to have been recently renovated to a very high standard.
Beautiful area, historic building, extremely friendly staff. They gave us a map and pointed out everything to do and all their favorite restaurants and deals!
