Aix-les-Bains is a French city in the Haute Savoie area of the Rhône-Alpes region. Situated on the shores of Lake Bourget, the largest and deepest natural lake in the country, this town inspired several artists and became famous by world-known writers like Xavier de Maistre, Honoré de Balzac, and Alexandre Dumas.
Located about 15 km from Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains features a great architectural mix of Art Deco buildings, Roman monuments and Italian-style houses. You can enjoy a romantic stroll around the vibrant avenue of Marie de Solms or visit the Faure Museum, a 19th-century villa with paintings and sculptures.
Thanks to its blue waters and long beaches, Aix-les-Bains offers a selection of outdoor activities like lake cruises, swimming and sailing during the summer months. In winter, travellers can go skiing in the nearby Grand Revard Mountains or just relax in a thermal spa.
The Casino Grand Cercle is an imposing building with 210 slot machines, poker tables, roulette wheels, entertainment events and shows.
Chambéry-Savoie Airport is about 7 km away and has seasonal flights to London, Amsterdam and Moscow. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel or apartment in Aix-les-Bains and the nearby cities of Mouxy and Trévignin.

The town is a lovely, clean and elegant.
The town is a lovely, clean and elegant. There were plenty of restaurants serving excellent food. The main part of the town is on the terrace which meant that there were hills to walk up and down. Most of the buildings date back to the turn of the last century but were very well maintained and gave the town a pleasant feel. There were plenty of green spaces.
There was an open-air theatre in the park with tea dances in the afternoon and other activities and a larger arts centre. There is a casino in an interesting style, with art nouveau and art deco features.
The town centre is more than a mile from the lake and although we walked on the first day, we discovered that it is easier to travel on the buses, which were frequent and reasonably priced with a flat fee.
The lake is pleasant with a tree-lined esplanade and plenty of activities, including paddle board hire, swimming and cruises.
We travelled by train. The station is at the bottom end of the town with a quarter of a mile walk to the town centre. There were frequent connections to Chambery and Annecy, as well as mainline connection to Lyon and other cities.

Museum Faure is superb and just a short walk from hotel belle epoque. Lots of impressionist art and Rodin sculptures. Brilliant!
Walk from hotel to lake was 30 minutes and full. Don’t waste your time walking!

This is a lovely, gentle resort with plenty of things to do and nearby places to travel to, even for those without a car, like us.
There were plenty of restaurants, although it was best to book the night before if you want a table outside at a particular time.
It is a little hilly but not so much that it would compromise anyone with most abilities.
The railway station is close to the town centre, with good connections to Lyon, Chambery, Annecy and Geneva, amongst other places - rail travel is not expensive in France.
The lake is some distance from the town centre; over a mile and we found it best to take the bus. There are three to four an hour and it is easy to pay the 1.5 Euro fare by contactless card for each journey.
At the lake, you can take boat rides and cruises, or you can swim, hire paddle boards or even small motor boats.
The only drawback of the region is that there is not very much English spoken, although we coped with the few words of French that we have - we learnt more through the week!
There were outside performances in the part as well as tea dances, often with live music. It caters more for the older traveller and there is less to do for children.

Unless you are into watercraft or water sports, there really isn't much reason to go to Aix-Les-Bains. The people are very nice and we found a couple terrific restaurants, but there really wasn't much to do.

Loved the old town and the quaint little shops that give a cozy and friendly atmosphere. Check out the Boulangerie Sabourdy for their vienoisserie and their Chocolaterie (just a few doors down) for... their chocolate. A quick drive or 15mins walk takes you to Lac du Bourget with plenty of opportunities to swim, walk, bike and rollerskate... Or simply picnic on the lakefront promenade. Easy to find parking everywhere. A great place to have a relaxing time.

Perfect holiday vacation to enjoy sailing and beach activities, ancient abbey visit, cycling, walking... A notable feature is the nice flowery perfume everywhere and the friendliness of the people. Perfect for a romantic vacation or a family stay with activities for everybody.
The bus system is pretty reliable (it doesn't run after 7.30pm though) thanks to the Ondea mobile application allowing digital bus tickets purchase and access to bus schedule.
Overall a great experience (except for the terrible Campanile hotel that you should absolutely avoid) in a city that we highly recommend visiting.
What a beautiful, comfortable hotel! We stayed at the Belle Epoch for our 10th wedding anniversary. Our room was gorgeous and so comfortable. The bed was heavenly. The decor was delightful. The staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. (Shout out to Mathilde, who is so kind and thoughtful!). The location is perfect. we loved the terrace for coffee or drinks. Just a wonderful experience.
The hotel faces the station and is in a quiet but busy part of town. Parking on the street outside is free overnight. The circulation areas in the hotel have been renovated to a high standard but our room, although comfortable, needed a repaint after new wiring had been installed. It was clean and spacious. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
The staff went out of their way to help, the swimming pool was just perfect and the room was large and well equipped. The private parking provision was also very welcome. Easy walk into town, we didn’t stay for dinner at the hotel but the menu looked good and we’ll priced, we just needed a walk after a long drive.
The hotel is right on the lake in Aix-les-Bains near restaurants, marinas, and many of the summer activities for which the town is known. We appreciated the free parking as we were traveling by car. Checking in at the bar in the restaurant was certainly a new experience but seemed to work well.
The owners were so kind to guide us to the main sightseeing and even to drive us early in the morning to the place where we've been under training. The location of the hotel is so good to reach many places by foot. The rooms are daily check and get clean.
On arrival, we received a very welcoming greeting by the owner, who checked us in and showed where to go for an evening meal. A basic and clean hotel near the train station and center of town. Limited free parking available, but ample parking close by.
The location is convenient for driving between Germany and Spain.
Breakfast staff was really lovely and friendly, it was a pleasure meeting them.
Sauna was sufficiently warm and to my notice all facilities in the "spa" area worked well.
Lovely little quirky hotel. Spotlessly clean with a nice view of the lake. The staff were fabulous - friendly and helpful. Especially the lady at breakfast - smiling and cooking eggs for everyone upon request - a nice touch!
So glad we chose this hotel. It’s right on the lake within walking distance of lots of restaurants and leisure facilities. We had a balcony with a lake view - definitely worth paying a bit extra for that.
Nothing. Avoid this hotel. Would not honor our room-type reservation and insisted that we had to stay in its attic. Would not cancel our reservation. Deceptive, dishonest, disreputable. Avoid.
location is ideal, up the hill a 5 minute walk from the old town, but close to the fun. and just below the Thermal baths. the rooms are super cute, fresh colors and clean.
Big hotel with lots of parking, next to a wooded area to walk in, but only a 20-25 minute walk into the centre. Friendly helpful staff and decent room size.
Excelent room for the family of five.
Great that the hotel has a pool so kids and adults can relax a little more.
beds, bathrooms, clean and good quality.
confortable, old building but well located, spacious room, excellent shower, kind staff always willing to solve any issue. nice breakfast (petit de jeuner)
