I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train.
I travelled into Kanazawa on the Thunderbird Express train. The station is modern and attractive and a short walk from all the main attractions. There is the Omicho market, geisha and samurai districts, a 400 year old castle and a modern art museum. Places to eat were plentiful and catered for all tastes. The two main attractions for me were walks along the river which flows through the town and the stunning Kenrokuen gardens.
Everywhere was within easy walking distance and the people were so friendly and welcoming. My lack of Japanese was never a problem.

The Samurai houses, Kenroku-en and the historical center are the best part of the city. Book a couple of days in advance the bus if you plan to visit Shirakawago because they might be fully booked. The inside of the castle is not as nice as I thought.

Kanazawa is a lovely town with one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens in Japan. We came here many times before, love some local cafés like Kakurezato coffee or some nice izakaya like Fuwari. We always stop by the 21st Century Art Museum who curates great contemporary art exhibitions.
We will avoid for sure the Soki hotel on our next visit but can only recommend the Share Hotels Kumu, OMO5 or Hotel Amanek.

Very beautiful old city that reminds of Kyoto but it has it's own charm. The whole city feels like Tokyo from before, maybe 10 - 15 years ago and that is amazing. One of the best city garden's in Japan. The local fish market is probably the best in the country.

I love this hotel, very efficient check in and out with the machine. The staffs are very helpful and friendly (5 stars hospitality). We took the triple bed room, and enjoy our stay there. The location is very close to the market and Higashi Chaya… very recommended !
Sadly we didn’t get a chance to visit the garden/castle because of a rainy day , but other than that we really enjoy Kanazawa.
There’s a shopping mall about 5 minutes walk from the hotel with a great food/supermarket area. It is accessible from an underground crossing at the cross road.

Great location, nearby the station.
Great location, nearby the station. Hotel staff was extremely helpful prior to my stay, giving me direction on how to get to Shirakawago, Iwate. Hotel has a beautiful large lobby by Japan's standards.
best hotel on our Japan trip!
newly refurbished very stylish and big rooms with a nice view! comfy beds and all the amenities you wish for! they also have breakfast which we didn’t book as around the corner was Lawson/familymart etc.
great bathroom facilities and they even had an onsen in the hotel that you could use for free!
fitness room with yoga mats, cycle thingy and a treadmill!
it was super clean, nice staff and great shower! could have easily spend a week here! also great location in Kanazawa, we nearly walked everywhere!
A nice and large hotel pretty close to the Kanazawa train station. To reach the hotel you need to walk about 5 minutes from the JR train station in Kanazawa.
The room we were in was quite large compared to the rest of the hotels we stayed at in our trip to Japan.
The staff was very kind and even helped us ship our luggage to the next destination.
The room was large, clean and included everything we needed.
In addition, the staff provided us with a small present because we were celebrating our honeymoon :)
My husband I loved everything about this hotel and we had an amazing stay at Sainoniwa Hotel! We used the free shuttle service from the Kanazawa station after we arrived and to get around. Hotel staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Our room was spotlessly clean with tons of little amenities for an extra nice touch. The spa with Onsen was wonderful and the breakfast buffet just incredible. Our stay here was perfect and we wished we had had the time to extend our stay for a few night more.
We had such a wonderful stay here! A cosy and funky Japanese style inn. Very small hotel but the rooms were big enough. Also there was a projector for watching movies, which was awesome! The host was extremely helpful and gave us great advice regarding which onsens to go to, etc. We we're here at Christmas, and it was so thoughtful of Taka to leave us little Christmas cakes and a Merry Xmas note. Would wholeheartedly recommend staying here for a comfortable and welcoming stay in Kanazawa :)
This hotel is close to the train station and bus station as well. Everything about this hotel is close to perfect. All the facilities are new, clean and esthetic. The bath is separate from the toilet. The bed was comfortable. Front desk staff, Ayaka, is nice and friendly. She helped us with our luggage when we wanted to tour Kanazawa after check out. Breakfast was a treat- it was varied and mostly healthy. The shampoo, bath soap and conditioner that they offered was quite heavenly.
Absolutely magnificent !!
11/10 !! Beautiful accommodation, clean, the best amenities we have had in Japan (open air Onsen on top floor, as well as indoor; sauna; free bikes; balcony on top floor for relaxation and a cute indoor space also).
Amazing cafe where the meals are around 1500 yen - they are delicious and come with a drink of your choice and salad. Very generously sized meals - really great food !
Best value hotel in Kanazawa !!
We loved The Square Hotel !!
We encountered great customer service throughout Japan, but the staff at this hotel were probably the friendliest. Room layout (including two sets of bunk beds) maximized space efficiency well. On site laundry work well (both washers and dryers). Little bit of a walk from the train station, but fabulous location for sightseeing in Kanazawa. Nice industrial chic decor. I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Kanazawa.
The hotel was a bit unusual for Europeans, as it has a Tatami-floor, and one uses hotel clothing. it is very clean and has a comfortable Onsen on the upper floor. it is close to downtown and the Omchio market approx. 20 mins footwalk to the train station. Kanazawa itself is an absolut must for a Japan trip, with its castle, Kenroku-en park, old Geisha and Samurai town all in close footwalk to the hotel.
The hotel was very elegant and our room was uniquely decorated with a Japanese theme which made it more special! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel is conveniently located near Kanazawa Station which can be accessed either through an underground passage way or above ground. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area!
The location of this hotel is fantastic. Very easy walk to the Kanazawa Castle and garden, also a nice walk to the tea district. The hotel lobby is beautiful with the stained glass windows. The reception staff and concierge are very friendly and helpful. Lots of options to try at breakfast, very delicious! The shuttle to the train station was great too!
it’s new and clean, the room was stayed in was very big for Japan standards with seperate bathroom and toilet, with a shower and bath. The room even had massage back and foot equipment you could use. We really liked it, Kanazawa is good for a day or day and a half visit to see tourist attractions and this is a good hotel to do it from.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. During our three weeks in Japan this was by far the most spacious and beautifully designed hotel we stayed in. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the bar served delicious sake and noodles on an evening. The room - wow. Definitely stay here if you are visiting Kanazawa!
The staff were so polite and made sure you had everything you needed for a great stay. The hotel itself was a beautiful Japanese property and the attention to detail was superb. The owner took some time out of his day to come and explain to us about the area of Kanazawa. I would love to stay here again.
The location is superb, inside Kanazawa station. The entrance is on east exit, beside 7 eleven; very2 convenience. Hotel's essentials i.e: coffee, tea, toiletries, etc provided in the lobby for us to grab. The room size is quite decent compared other Japanese franchise. Very clean and comfortable!
Walking distance from Kanazawa station. New modern hotel. Shower/bathtub room was large for Japanese hotel standards. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was good downstairs in the Italian restaurant. Convenience store right next door.
The hotel excellently located, 10min away from the train station and 10min away from points of interest in Kanazawa. Value for the price is great, as the hotel is modern, rooms are clean and larger than your usual Japan standards.
Lovely little hotel/hostel in Kanazawa. The staff, including Nina were so welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the private room and it was very comfortable. Great air conditioning to save you from Japan’s summer heat.
Right beside Kanazawa station.
Very profession staff, bringing together the expectations of an international hotel chain and Japanese hospitality. Classy decor. Well furnished.
The hotel is located in a location where it is very easy to visit the Kenrokuen garden, the Kanazawa Castle, the Omicho market, and various shopping centres.
