Ishigaki island is a gorgeous laid back island. The local people were so friendly. It’s a wonderful place to explore the reef and nature of the island. Make sure you have google translate as it an be difficult to work out the menus. We loved the snorkeling trip, saw turtles, sea snakes and Nemo. Bana park is lovely to explore. So much to do here. We hired a car to explore the whole island.

Tip: 1) avoid the buses as most as you can! Bikerentals are awesome! Maesato beach belongs to a hotel but day guests are welcome, just follow the signs on the property.
Tip 2) Definitely take a ferry to Taketomi, rent a bike there
Tip 3) Taxi to airport is about 3500 yen
Tip 4) Find out when rain season is

Most of the island's attractions - shopping, restaurants, hotels, the port to access other islands and the airport bus - are within a two minute walk of each other. I didn't visit the attractions outside of the centre because I didn't have a car and the local buses didn't run frequently but I had lots to do nonetheless. Took a very enjoyable day trip to Taketomi Island.

The accommodation offered a breathtaking view of coral reefs with a lush jungle as its backdrop. We spent our days walking down to the nearby beach, enjoying swims and snorkelling adventures in the warm waters. Our host even took us on a tour where he showed us clownfish, adding a layer of wonder to our stay. If you're a nature enthusiast yearning for a tropical escape that connects you with the natural world, this place is an absolute paradise.

I liked that you can get around in short time and still have a big variety of things you can do. I was there in Feb and no watersports was possible for me as it was too cold. Went to Karibe for a walk and to Iriomote for a bike ride.

A beautiful island, which is surprisingly big as it takes about 3 hours / 120km to drive the ourter circumference.
Once you get outside of the main town it is exceedingly quite, with beachtiful beaches and countryside.
A car is a must!
The main town has easy access by boat to other remote islands. Taketomi was only about 15 minutes away, with stunning beaches, a good bike rental service with shuttle bus from the port and ox-cart rides!

Clean hotel, we’ll maintained by the friendly owners in the heart of nice Kabira Bay, close to restaurants and a small convenience store.
The hotel has a vacation, island vibe and the owners let you feel at home.
We had tow Japanese style rooms: sleeping on tatami, small bathroom, small fridge and water boiler. Every day new towels.
It’s indeed nice to look at the stars from the roof of the hotel or have a coffee in the morning up there.
Would stay here again and recommend the guesthouse.
Josh, a serial hotel management expert, and his staff are extremely helpful in giving us tips to get around the island. Even for visitors like us who came to Ishigaki several times in the past, those tips were helpful. The location can’t be better. Beach is just in front of the hotel. Access to the nearby mangrove river is easy by kayak or SUP. You must try their Rigatoni and Sunday galette. Best on the island.
The hosts are very kind, they are so open minded and friendly to help us. We got watermelon, the special cakes, and the grandma’s extremely delicious homemade somenchanpuru(the Okinawa’s typical food). All the equipments in the house are clean and good. The people there are so nice, I had best sleep there and a lot of good memories which makes me wanna come back next time. Thanks so much!
I wanted to snorkel around Kabira and I am glad I picked Lulaliya! Host Halu and staff Kousuke and Satoshi are friendly and want you to have a good time. Lodge is well located in town with walking distance to great restaurants, diving shop and the Kabira Bay. Hotel also has a restaurant so you can eat there if you feel like staying put after a long day. Had a great time!
This is a great small hotel in Maezato. It is a short 10-minute walk to a clean, sandy beach that is maintained by ANA resort. There is an imported foods grocery shop about 5 min walk away, and another a bit further down the highway. The kitchenette had pots and dishes available, and the washer had laundry soap, which was handy. The Hammock massage spa is a short walk away.
Decent hotel for a holiday. View from the window of the neighboring golf course and the ocean. Easy access to the airport by bus (one of the lines stops in front of the hotel). Close to the public beach (although poorly marked public crossing through the premises of the neighboring hotel). Close to local shopping center and restaurants.
The staff is lovely and so is the owner, Josh! We had a late flight back and he let us keep the room for the day, because our backs were sunburned so badly we couldn’t stay in the sun/heat. We could rent a car at the hôtel (do it!) and the staff picked us up and dropped us back at the airport. The best service ever!
Big comfortable house with everything working, Yonehara beach with a reef - National park - with hips of fish you can swim from the beach, no currents or waves, in 8 minute drives from the house. Helpful owners who helped me communicate with car rental in Japanese when me car had troubles.
The staff was extraordinary and always available for questions, they were always smiling and extremely polite! The hotel was clean and well positioned to explore the north side of the island. Restaurant was really good ! I would definitely recommend staying here.
Well located, cute hotel with spacious rooms and friendly staff. A good value option especially if you want something quieter and more relaxed than the larger resorts on the island. Breakfast is nice and the free tea and coffee in reception is a useful feature.
it’s near the bus terminal and the public market. perfect location and cheaper compared to staying in a hotel.
recommended for those who plan to spend more time outside, the ac is okay. they provide towels for 100¥ each and can use the laundry area too!
Very nice hotel, with all comforts and with extremely friendly staff.
The location is a little far from Ishigaki city, but it offers a way more beautiful coastline.
The restaurants are a bit pricey, but the food is rather good.
Very great place for up to 5 people. While bot s Hotel it has everything needed. Fully stocked kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Super clean as well!
About a 15 minute walk into the city but also has great restaurants nearby.
Perfect location if you are planning to go on boat tours that leave from the port. Close to so many restaurants and nightlife. On a quiet street. Very big space compared to other hotels. Washer and dryer made whole trip easier
Amazing place to spend honeymoon. Views from the hotel are breathtaking, quiet and private area surrounded by nature. Staff is very friendly and helpful, there are only good vibes :)
Very cozy hotel, nice interior. We stayed 4 days in the hotel while the typhoon was passing. Everything was so convenient we felt comfortable despite not able to go out
I’ve stayed many times at this hotel. location is great and if you have kids, there’s so much to do on the property that in theory you never have to leave.
