Salamanca Wharf Hotel, hotel in Hobart

Located in the cultural and historic heart of Hobart CBD (Central Business District), Salamanca Wharf Hotel a 5-minute walk from Hobart’s waterfront.

The bed was exceptionally comfortable. We did have some challenges locating the hotel after being dropped off at the wharf (by tour bus) and given vague directions to walk there. It was a one night stay after the 3 capes hike so we were seeking a mix of comfort, location and a touch of luxury. These were met.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel, hotel in Hobart

Sitting alongside Hobart's waterfront, the historic Henry Jones Art Hotel offers luxurious rooms offering water or courtyard views.

Location was exceptional: right next to the waterfront and just a short walk (5 minutes) to Salamanca and Hobart CBD. Plenty of dining and coffee options are nearby. Room was spacious and very comfortable, more like a small mezzanine apartment with separate kitchen area. Artwork throughout the hotel provided a great vibe and lent a unique character to the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful.

FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. This was an amazing State, i have never encountered, such courtesy from the majority, even driving was made easy, no tailgating, every one was extremely patient and friendly, i in fact made this comment several times during our stay. Thankyou Hobart and Thankyou to the Hobart Government for ensuring the patience and calm manner of your residents which is reflected to visitors from interstate, if only our own Government could take a leaf from Hobarts book to ensure the safety of all residents and Tourists.

We arrived on a late evening flight, and the hotel made arrangements for our after hours access to our room - these arrangements were made by the Motel at the time of the booking, so we had everything in place well ahead of the trip. The hotel is surrounded by a variety of restaurants and a supermarket, so you do not need to travel far for great meal options. However, the location is close to Battery Point and Hobart CBD, so you have many options. The rooms are spacious, the shower is hot, and the towels are plush.

Beautiful hotel, very original in conception. Wonderful location, just on the old Macquarie wharf at Hobart's tourist port. Excellent organization and careful management by the hotel's team. Closely linked to the history of the city of Hobart, whose colourful characters are finely sketched on the doors of the rooms. Excellent food at the "Old Wharf Restaurant" and very fine selection of Tasmanian gins, whiskies and vodkas at the "Evolve Spirits" bar. Congratulations.
