The area is simply enchanting, deep in the beautiful Spreewald (forest of the river Spree). The whole place is surrounded by water channels and you can rent paddle boats to explore this natural beauty. If this sounds like too much effort for you, there are also organized tours and someone will show you the area. You can taste local specialties as well as cold beer at the many "beer-gardens" along the way, and enjoy the peace and calm of this UNESCO world heritage site. Just one recommendation, if you visit it during summer time: be prepared to face the multitude of insects and make sure that at your accommodation they have panels to protect your windows from insects. Especially during hot days, you want to be able to get fresh air!
