Comfortable beds. Location in the center of town, close to free parking. Very kind and helpful hosts. Wonderful made-to-order breakfast. Elorrio is a lovely town. We initially chose this hotel because it was only 30 min away from Bilbao airport. But we also ended up enjoying walking around the town and people-watching in the main square in the evening.

This was the most special vacation of my life! My husband and I are traveling Europe for our honeymoon and wanted to get away somewhere rural for a few days. Mendi Goikoa Bekoa was an absolute dream. Cannot recommend enough!!

Durango is a lovely place to experience the Basque way of life. It is not particularly a tourist destination as such, but for me that is the appeal. Not many people speak English, but they will go out of their way to be helpful. That said, it would not do any harm to learn a few basic words and phrases of Spanish, or Basque if you are brave.
Durango is surrounded by mountains, which are nothing short of spectacular to see. Take a bus, or train ride to Bilbao (Bilbo to the locals)(cost €2.55), or San Sebastian (Donostia) to see some beautiful scenery. Lekeitio is a lovely seaside resort not so far from Durango with not a roast beef dinner in sight. Speaking of which, do not expect the type of dining experience you would get in Ireland or Britain. The basques like to wander from bar to bar, having only one or two drinks and/or snacks in each place. Measures of beer tend to be small. This is to ensure that they stay cold until you are finished them. Moving from place to place normally means that everyone gets to meet all their friends when they are out. Also, this activity rarely starts before 22:00 or later and can continue well into the early hours.
In summary, I love the place and I'm very happy to recommend it.

We stayed outside the town centre in a lovely village called Garai. The town of Durango was a little disappointing as most restaurants where tapas bar not restaurants. Nice atmosphere in the evening though. Unfortunatly the 3 restaurants in the village we stayed were closed in the evening

Wonderful town, such character, young and classy at the same time. We ate at the hotel Olajauregi which was wonderful and had drinks in their garden. The old town offers plenty of restaurants and bars, very vibrant.
Kind, helpful, informative people and a home-like setting. The owner's were so kind, and offered great suggestions for the area. You're literally less than 5 minutes away from Durango. Breakfast was made to order and wonderful! Really felt like you were staying with family. The bed was comfortable. This was a great value for the money!
Beautiful property tucked away behind Durango. The owner was super friendly, accommodating and made a great breakfast ☺️ The property was well situated between Urkiola and Durango. Kitchen fully stocked with utensils (including wine glasses). It was a lovely place to cook and sit by the fire after our hike.
I liked the style of the building and the ambiance. Facilities to enjoy a drink outside in the sunshine. Stunning mountain scenery at your doorstep. I forgot to bring an electrical adaptor (senior moment), but very nice lady in the hotel provided a phone charger to me, which saved the day.
The cottage is absolutely beautiful, mostly made of wood with attention for the details and located in the nature.
I have been in many hotels, but I have never found such a clean place: everywhere you look , is clean. Great job from the management and staff!

A really excellent hotel, great pool & ground floor space. Eating outside, friendly staff & waiters/waitresses (slightly abrupt person behind the front desk but she was ok). Clean, lovely location in a really pretty town. And very inexpensive.
This hotel is perfect.
Room size is just what you need and the location is great if you are visiting Durango for a couple of days.
You have the city center just 10min from there, and a nice bar in the corner.
Highly recommended;)

The hotel and rooms are very tastefully decorated, and provide a peaceful, calming vibe.
The surrounding area and village are also beautiful
