Reception was a deception: very complicated procedure with 3 different codes to enter the room.
Breakfast was OK.
Located a 15-minute walk from the center of Chamont, hotel L'Etoile d'Or has a restaurant that serves specialties from the Champagne and Burgundy regions. An LCD TV features in the modern guest rooms....

Chaumont is a small provincial capital (22,000 people), with limited tourist appeal. The most important sight is the 600 metre railway viaduct, just beyond the station; it's worfth a detour. One can visit the main buildings in the city in a couple of hours on foot. The Centre National de Graphisme, which is recommended, was open only from 2 pm when we were there. We dined in the restaurant of the Hotel des Remparts, which was unexpectedly excellent; curiously, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but otherwise reservations might be needed.
This quiet city is fine for a one-night stay.

We had a few hours to visit the centre and/or buildings. City centre is poor and poverly. We found almost no restaurants - and only then open after 19.00 hrs.....on reservation.
For resting place it is ok - (distance south/north) but there are more interesting places. The restaurant we found (Le Tandem) was extraordinay good....
We could walk from our hotel tot the city centra in 10 minutes.

After staying in a not very pleasant hotel in Switzerland it was a relief to stay in a clean, comfortable and modern hotel in Chaumont. An ideal location for anybody travelling across France from the UK. The staff were lovely too.

Although we stayed over a Sunday and very little was open, we discovered the amazing viaduct and walked around the historic centre. A visit to the Charles de Gaulle Monument and Museum not very far away is a must!

A nice little town centre, typically French.
A nice little town centre, typically French.
Had a Croque Monsieur and a couple of drinks seated on the pavement of a local pub, winding down after a long drive from Calais. It's a shame a lot of the restaurants don't start serving meals until 7o'clock.
We particularly enjoyed staying in a peaceful village on the edge of town with good walks and in an independent establishment with its own unique atmosphere. This was personified by the owner who was exceptionally welcoming, personable and attentive throughout as befits someone with a lifetime in hotel management and direction. He offers excellent meals and value for money. Accommodation was basic, but comfortable and warm. The owner has plans and we look forward to another stay.
Charming and very atmospheric place to stay. Old house, nicely decorated, bedroom window looks at the forest-like place, looking wild. Hilly surroundings, this is why the garden where we had nice breakfast located on the 3rd floor. Welcoming and kind host. Combined with the evening walk through Chaumont (that pleasantly surprised us), this turned 'a place to sleep 1/2 way home from the south of France and leave early morning' into very special experience that we will remember.
Spotlessly clean, large quiet room. Welcoming, efficient staff.
Excellent value for money.
Great location an easy walk into the centre of town.
Chaumont itself which is a lovely historic town 10 minutes drive from auto route.
Free parking on site.
Good value breakfast - served from 7.30 for early getaways.
Free Wifi.
Great location for a stop on the way home. staff really helpful and welcoming. it was 33c when we arrived so big room and air con was just right. nice restaurant as part of the hotel. sits in a part pedestrian area with own parking so you can get out for a wander through shops n bars before dinner
Amazing french hotel full of character. Staff were amazing when we arrived, super helpful and really friendly.
Food was brilliant. Rooms were immaculately cleaned, were quiet and had everything you need. We will definitely be stopping there again.
Overnight stay on the way south. Quiet village minutes from Chaumont, which itself is a great stopover. Spacious, comfortable, exceptionally clean and well equipped house. In our view, a much better option than a local hotel. Thoroughly recommend
Location is very good when travelling though France, close to motorway and also other directions.
Reception staff very nice and competent, breakfast good and easy to access. Hotel very clean with ample parking.
very good value for money.
Great location with covered secure parking (extra cost) . A dog friendly hotel that allows you to take dogs into the restaurant, too. Important when travelling solo. Very spacious room , super comfy bed, and linen. . Large bathroom.
We like most the location of the hotel so peaceful and we loved the sounds of the bell from the chapel beside.
The owner/receptionist, he was so kind, approachable and attentive to client.
