Newtownards, while not obviously a beautiful town, has interesting and historic elements. Its position near Belfast, lovely Strangford Lough and magnificent National Trust property Mountstewart is a bonus. We enjoyed drinks and food in the Parlour (formerly known as the Old Cross). There were other interesting looking bars/restaurants which we unfortunately did not have time to explore.

She shared her knowledge of local places and history and also things that interested our family - like the hockey rink just a few miles away.
