Romantic Renaissance
Located among undulating meadows and Chianti vineyards, Siena shines as a jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the famous Palio di Siena horse race, catch the pulse of the city at Piazza del Campo, visit the beautiful Duomo cathedral…and fall in love with this charming city!
Founded by Etruscans around 900 BC, the city was first conquered by Romans and later by Lombards. The Middle Ages saw it becoming the independent and flourishing Republic of Siena, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
The economic difficulties that followed turned out to be a blessing for the preservation of its historic centre. Adorned with frescoes by Ghirlandaio and bass-reliefs by Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Jacopo della Quercia, the Duomo represents the highest expression of this well-kept legacy. The shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, with the Palazzo Pubblico and the Gaia Fountain, is still the heart and soul of the city. Follow the labyrinth of narrow streets and passages that irradiate from there and you will be enchanted by its romantic atmosphere from ancient times.
The closest airports are Peretola Airport in Florence and Galileo Galilei International Airport in Pisa, though Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna is also well connected. While planning your trip, don’t forget to check out the Siena accommodation deals on Booking.com!
Great old city! Good to stay and explore Tuscany from here by car. Busses go to other major places too. We took an express bus to Florence and back. You need to make sure where the bus is leaving in Siena and in Florence.

Siena is a beautiful, historic town with amazing vistas, cost small streets and much less crowds compared to Bologna and Florence. It’s a wonderful place to spend some time in and get a feel for what Italy used to be. If you are looking for something calmer Siena is a really good choice. It is awesome for day trips to Florence, Pisa, Arrezo and others.

Siena was so beautiful.
Siena was so beautiful. Fabulous food and wine and so much to see that was inspiring, especially Renaissance Art. Unfortunately, the paintings of good and bad government which we had especially gone to see, were away for restoration. We shall just have to return another time! I walk with a stick and some of the very steep streets were very challenging for me. Fortunately, we worked out flatter routes to take other than the ones Google Maps gave us! Someone should write a disabled persons guide to Siena. Nearby Tuscan towns a must, too.

My daughter spent a month there during college days so have visited in the past. Superb museum in the central plaza and great to wander the streets and shops. Attended a concert in the theater in the central area which was a disaster because of the incredible noise from an adjacent party/facility with a boom box going full blast --- i.e., I would characterize this as a seriously embarrassing and classless situation for all concerned. I would not advise spending more than a full day there. Finally, the place is overly obsessed/fixated on the whole horse race in the central plaza that takes place for about 3 minutes every 12 months.

This was a MARVELOUS place! Great location! DO make sure, if arriving by car, that you read their instructions! We loved the place. Reception friendly, courteous and welcoming. Very helpful, excellent english since our Italian is still 'wobbly'. Lovely room, very clean, great bed and a marvelous look at the Duomo and tower. We have a cat and she was received like the queen she thinks she is. GREAT bfst that was not all sweets!

Siena old city centre is great.
Siena old city centre is great. Piazza del campo is beautiful and lovely. We were also here for Strade bianche cycling race and it was magnificent to experience it. For parking, i reccomend parking house at the train station. On Saturday the whole day parking cost us 2€. We parked there and then walked to center from there, around 25 minutes of walk. For dinner, we went to Ristorante Pizzeria La Capannina by car. If you want to experience real Italian food, i would higly reccomend this restaurant. The food was great and the prices affordable. Overall, i couldn't reccomend it more.
Outstanding staff, Lorenzo and Giacomo were extremely helpful during our stay. Lorenzo gave us an intro on the things to see, recommendations on food and also tips on how to move between the hotel and the center of Sienna.
The location is great, the views are breathtaking and the hotel itself is an old house that was built by the Piccolomi family, a noble family from Italy that actually had 2 popes.
Really nice hotel! We were really surprised. We loved it so much! We went to 4 différents hotels in Italy the same week and it was by far the best hotel, with the best organization for breakfast due to Covid.
Room was so confortable and big enough for a family. Location is great. The city was amazing! We loved everything.
We will come back! You can easily find a parking space outside the hotel.
It was located close to area of Siena we wanted to visit daily. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They gave great advice on places to eat, and things to see. They helped order taxis and help with us learn certain words in Italian. The rooms and property were clean. The view from the room was beautiful. There was a nice area to sit and relax as you entered the hotel.
We loved everything about Hotel Italia. The breakfast buffet was excellent (and the only time we had eggs during our week’s tour of Italy). The staff were always professional and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean, quiet and had a comfortable bed / pillows. The hotel is a few minutes’ walk from the central train station and a 20 minutes’ walk from Sienna’s cathedral.
The hotel is well located, walking distance from the tourist attractions of Siena. The entire team was very attentive, explaining in detail how to get to tourist sites and providing maps. The restaurant in the Hotel is fine and the prices are fair. It is possible to park in the Hotel and it is possible to arrive without the zone restrictions of traffic.
I had the best shower since being in Italy ! The bathroom is so spacious .. I loved it !
I also had the best sleep! Room is quiet and spacious.. I recommend if you are visiting Tuscany region to base your self in Siena .. bus services to the little towns is easily accessible..
Staff were friendly and so accommodating..
A stunning building located really close to Siena. The staff were absolutely incredible. So friendly and welcoming. The food was exquisite, in particular the tasting menus. This stay was one of the highlights of our time in Italy and I would recommend anyone reading this not to hesitate in booking.
Mariangela is so nice. She has put her love into her business. This is a great location in the middle of Siena. Comfortable, clean and great value. The building is over 1000 years old so of course it’s not perfect but the room was actually fairly large for Italy. Perfect for our needs.
This is a beautiful property with history and great freindly staff. The restaurant was really nice
The hotel and rooms were exceptionally clean . The grounds are just beautiful you can stay there all day and relax or drive into Siena, just 15-20 minutes
Really clean, comfortable and homely full of character. Brilliant location, it's inside the Siena city walls but a short stroll to loads of car parking. Great views from the back windows across Siena and quiet at night time. One of our fav places in italy.
The hotel is my favorite in Italy, Old world feel but new world comfort! I love staying there....have done so twice and will again. The staff is fantastic and the 6th floor terrace is the best, beautiful views.
This is THE place to stay for il Palio!
Wow. The hotel is fabulous. View is spectacular and it is generally centrally located near everything. The staff was phenomenal. So very helpful. When we come back to Siena, we will for sure stay here. Breakfast included and it is a lot. Love it!
Hotel Alma Domus is a little gem. While not plush, it is clean, the staff is wonderful and the location is situated close to the bus station. And the breakfast is delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Siena.
Great location with underground secure parking. Main reason we chose this hotel. Great view from window of old church. Breakfast was above our average experience in Italy for choice so good for family stays.
the view from the terrace is amazing!!! Siena at your feet. get a glass of wine at sunset and relax on the terrace- our top Italy experience. Eugenia was very helpful and friendly!
Old school hotel steeped in history, not 5* modern luxury but doesn’t need to be, lovely staff, unbeatable location, great breakfast, and parking on site in centre of Siena !!
