The majority of the rooms are beachfront/beach view. Great, ultra-modern shower & toilet. Good location on perimeter road; quiet (except for the surf)! Pleasant staff. Remote controlled window blind. Refrigerator. WiFi. A comfortable mix of up-to-date and traditional. Room (double with two beds) is on the small side as far as dealing with suitcases, etc., but not impossible
Located at the edge of a peninsula on Yakushima Island, samana hotel Yakushima offers great views of the ocean and Mount Motchom.

The room is modern, great ocean view with a big balcony, lost of privacy and the bathtub with ocean view is amazing!
The hotel is very nice and the staff did their best to help and answer all our questions.
We took a private tour to the famous Moss Forests and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide! She was super knowledgeable and went out of her way to make our hike an unforgettable experience (Mish Higashi).
We where able to rent all the hiking gear that we needed for our tour.

Our host Mr Nakashima was very kind and generous during our stay. He always replied to our messages via bookings.com very quickly, so it was easy to ask any questions and get help whenever we needed. When we had to change our travel dates and book a different room for the last day, he was very understanding and went the extra mile to assist us in transferring our luggage to the new room. Needless to say, the cottages themselves were adorable and lovely! Very clean and spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The best thing is the shoe dryer machine provided in the room. Because it rains so much in Yakushima, that device was invaluable in preparing our footwear for another day of adventure as they would be dry in no time! On the only one clear night we experienced, we were able to see some stars outside the room. The atmosphere is peaceful and you can hear birds chirping in the morning. It rained almost every day we visited, and yet we truly enjoyed our time in Yakushima thanks to the warm welcome from his family & colleagues, and appreciate all the help (especially advising us on the correct port to go for our departure ferry).

We like the high wooden ceilings of the cottage.Bathroom was nice, all wood, newly remodeled. It was also nice to have a private garden that was away from the road with deck, table, chairs and hammock.

The host made a reservation of a rental car on behalf of us at the peak season, which greatly helped us. We had breakfast every day (1,800 yen per person) during our stay and they were great. The dishes include grilled mackerel/salmon, several cooked vegetables/sea weeds, soup, and yogurt. We also had a nice dinner (3,200 yen per person) including grilled amberjack, amberjack sashimi, smoked mackerel, and braised pork belly.
Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views.
Yakushima is a beautiful island with amazing views. The island is quiet and not touristy at all. Most things are closed on Sundays and don’t chose Yakushima if you want to go shopping or night life (it doesn’t exist). If you want great hiking, beautiful views and a touch of peace and quiet it’s a great place to go. Rent a car. Definitely worth it to tour the island and some of the inland roads (be warned they are very narrow and slow moving in many places, and you will need to reverse a lot for others to pass) It was a great way to see the island all its beauty and tons of monkeys.

Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking.
Shiratani Unsuikyo was breathtaking. Jumonsugi Cedar trail was an adventure but not as pretty as Shiratani Unsuikyo. I am glad I did it but would not do it again. I will remember Shiratani Unsuikyo for the rest of my life as one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and I have travelled a lot. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was. I wish I had 4 nights here. I needed one more day to explore the island. People should think twice about doing Jumonsugi trail. It is a lot and quite hard. Do it for the adventure but not for the views.

Incredible island full of wonderful nature toe explore, I could have spent 5 days here probably, although a car rental would be really helpful. The buses and taxis are relatively expensive and not always available or convenient.

You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it.
You have to hike on Yakushima to really appreciate it. The drive into the hills to get to these walks is incredible. The walks through moss and forests of ancient trees is brillant. It is like stepping into another world on Yakushima. If not into hiking, then the waterfalls and beaches and tide pools are also great.

It is an amazing island with beautiful nature and scenery but not well developed infrastructure and scarce public transport system. Best to rent a car, otherweise it limits activity on the other side of the island. Realisticly speaking the one destination visit per day is maximum with public transport. It is also necessary to begin early, as there are not really activities just for a half day (due to bus schedules). Therefore a 3 days stay may be a bit too short considering travel time with a ferry. It is good idea to shop before reaching island as there is limited supermarket choice.

Very wild Island.
Very wild Island. Good for people liking forest and trails, not good for people liking beaches. Not touristic Island. Organic Island, locals people are nice and helping. No shops. 7 days is enough to stay and visit.
We had a wonderful stay here in Yakushima, Barbara was an amazing host and really went above and beyond to help us out! The room was very comfortable with a lovely view, and the shared rooms (kitchen/bathroom) had everything we needed during our stay. Isso Beach was a short walk away and was a great place to swim and watch the sunset. There's a bus stop nearby - buses around the island aren't so frequent, but we managed to do everything we wanted to by planning ahead with the timetable. Thanks again! Alex + Gabriella
The amazing island Yakushima along with its friendly people. We had an amazing experience for our last stop of our honeymoon trip to Japan. We rented a car for the days we were staying and this is really recommended since you're able to explore and see much more of the island. Shouji-san and Mami-san were super kind and we facilitated us in every way possible. Thank you so much for an unforgettable trip!
The location is great! From this guest house, you can easily go to popular destinations(Jomon-Sugi, and Shiratani unsuikyo) with public transportation options and rental cars.
Also there are great restaurants in walkable range.
Moreover, the host is super kind and he can tell lots of things about Yakushima travel!(you better be good at speaking Japanese)
Lovely self-catering unit with private decking/sitting area perfect to watch the sunset and enjoy the hot tub. The twin beds were comfortable and we enjoyed having a small kitchen. The young girl at the reception spoke perfect English and was very helpful. We definitely recommend this place in Yakushima. You need a car though to get around.
Friendly hosts, clean rooms and wonderful food. Remains the best food I’ve had in Japan after 2 months there! It’s also very chilled but social - you sit with other guests to eat breakfast and dinner.
I’d recommend renting a car to get around the island. I used a company called YES Yakushima who arranged my ferry tickets and car rental.
It is a walking distance from Miyanoura port and from airport bus directly goes to that port quite offen. The staff are very helpful, and they did they best to assist me when I needed help.
Breakfast has a lot of options, and they offer lunch pack for people who want to go hiking very early and can not have breakfast at the hotel.
Daichan House is an incredible place to stay at, and if you're going to Yakushima and plan on staying somewhere budget friendly I could not recommend it more. It is cash only, as is most of the island, so beware of that upon coming, but other than that Daichan is an incredible host, and getting to know him is an absolute joy :>
An absolutely amazing place to stay in Miyanoura area. The room was very spacious and had everything you might need, and the traditional bath elevated the experience even further. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We hope to come back to Yakushima and to Sen-no-Ie in particular (¬‿¬)
Very good value for money, in a traditional rural Japanese house. Placed in a very peaceful location in the island, the lady was very nice and the lodging was great. I couldn’t afford the ryokans in my stay in Japan, so this was a good substitute, and was also the best place I stayed in in Japan
The owners were so kind and helpful, even drove us to a couple of places.
The breakfast is big and tasty.
The facility is clean and pretty, makes you feel comfortable.
The bathroom + showers are big and enjoyable.
Would definitely go back if I ever return to Yakushima.
The setting is beautiful and the room was very comfortable. It is nice to have a rental car here as it takes a few minutes to drive to town, and the hiking trails are up in the mountains. We had a wonderful time in Yakushima! The owner is also very kind and helpful.
Quiet location, beautiful house with nice artistic touches. Homemade desserts and local brews available. Yuki was so helpful on booking us the Miyazaki car ferry. The only place we stayed at in 3 weeks across Japan with REAL LINEN sheets!
Japanese-type breakfast was great. Lunch bento for hiking also great. Hiking gear available for rent. For dinner, restaurant with good atmosphere was on the water next to the hotel.
Hotel is on the road leading to popular hiking trails.
it was very conveniently located near the airport and car rentals. The hotel had a nice onsen facility. The room was spacious, we fell asleep with the sound of river behind our window. it was nice to move ariund the hotel barefoot
Lovely place to stay in Yakushima. Great hostel feeling where you can meet other travelers, Japanese and international.
Very kind hostess. She helps with an all the information you need.
Beautiful hotel surrounded by stunning scenery. They gave the most impeccable service from start to finish. Great amenities and an incredible restaurant! Our stay was perfection!
Miki, the host, made a wonderful breakfast every morning with local Yakushima produce! She was very sweet and helpful with any questions about the island we had. : )
