We really liked the city.
We really liked the city. You need to understand the bus situation and we tried, bought bus passes, tried using them but they were not coded the way our phone was displaying so we ended up using taxi service for all of our visitations to museums, central, restaurants, etc. It wasn't expensive but much more than the simple bus or combi travel would have been. Merida has lots to offer, especially with tours outside of the city, a bus trip to the beach in Progresso for 25 pesos each way, very cheap, cenotes, pyramids, on and on!JenniferMexico - 10Scored 10

Merida is a historic small city/big village with several local entities and several upscale newer businesses too. Old buses and new buses. Very friendly and safe. People walk about the streets are pretty much all hours. It was fun. Energetic.

The Merida restaurant scene has everything from chef owned culinary gems to family run taco shops. There are many excellent tour guides available for in-depth exploration of the city and surroundings or one can do so on their own using public transportation or with a rental car.

They were doing some repainting, workers were unobtrusive and quiet. WIFI and water pressure was better than most places I stayed in Mexico. Beds were fairly comfortable. It would be a great value if not for the issues.
