De Doelen, hotel in Leiden

Hotel De Doelen is uniquely situated at the Rapenburg, one of the most beautiful canals in the Netherlands. The hotel is situated in an ancient Patrician mansion, built in 1638.

"The hotel with the soul" was my first thought when I entered the hall. It feels very "home-like". And everything (incl. tea&coffee sets in the room) demonstrates that you are welcomed. Great location.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable with a good shower and nice bed linen. The location is great with the train station and the beautiful historic town just a few minutes walk away. There are some good restaurants nearby. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but enjoyed breakfast at some of the excellent local cafes.

Hotel Mayflower, hotel in Leiden

Hotel Mayflower is located downtown in one of the best locations in Leiden.

Had a great room with a nice view of the city centre. When I arrived early, the owner made an effort to have my room cleaned first so I could check in after 10 minutes wait. A nice touch for this class of hotel: coffee and tea making facilities, mini fridge.

This was our second visit to the property. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and found the team during our stay, very friendly and helpful. Being able to store our bikes safely overnight gave us peace of mind. We stayed in the Loft room with a nice view over the square and sitting area. We enjoyed a breakfast of local ham and cheese, croissants and omelette and yoghurt with fruit. A great start to the day!!

Old house on the canal. We had a ground floor room from choice. Very welcoming staff who immediately offered a seat and a drink before any explanations of layout etc. That was appreciated.

Beautiful old city with excellent bus and rail services only...

Beautiful old city with excellent bus and rail services only 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Plenty museums to visit and the oldest university in the Netherlands, Botanical gardens and Rembrandt's home and studio. Canal cruises and cycle hire to explore the outer part of the city. Plenty places to eat. We tended to eat at the restaurant near the hotel. Ideal location to visit both Delft and the Hague from. Would hope to return again. I travelled with 18 members of my family and stayed in the Rembrandt Hotel. Everyone thought Leiden was an excellent location to visit Keukenhof, Delft and the Hague from.

Great town and central to day trips all over the Netherlands. Much more pleasant than staying in Amsterdam and only a short 20 minute train ride directly to Schiphol Airport. Could not be more convenient and relaxing.

Leiden is a great place to stay.

Leiden is a great place to stay. It’s like staying in a mini Amsterdam without as many people. Lovely canals to walk around and lots of small individual places to eat. Very peaceful to stroll around with a lovely market held on Saturday and Wednesdays. We took one of the walking tours around the town which you can buy at the local tourist information office. Also enjoyed going up the Windmill, but be prepared for a steep climb down. Well worth a visit!

Lovely city to walk in. All the people we met and staff in bars and hotel were helpful and friendly. Sadly only had time for one visit - to Hortus Botanicus- which was well worth the time. Would plan to visit again.

Leiden and its surrounding offers you a lot if you like...

Leiden and its surrounding offers you a lot if you like walking in beautiful old cities alongside canals. A windmill that is seemingly so simple can explain Dutch social history but there are many other interesting museums as well, and a very special botanical garden. Public transport is well organised (except on special days) and you can reach gems outside the city like Spinoza house or lakeside restaurant. The sea is not far away either.

Spacious room with excellent views onto the marketplace and an opening window. Comfortable beds. Bath. kettle, coffee maker and full size fridge. Helpful staff. Useful lounge downstairs. Able to park bikes in front of the hotel. Fantastic location: very close to the station and tourist information. A large choice of restaurants very close by. Easy access to the various tourist attractions. The name of the hotel references the city's links with the Pilgrim Fathers.

Hotel as expected for the ***, though on the pricy side. Location - excellent in a few hundred meters from the station, and 15 mins from the center. Staff adequate, but not so smiley... Rooms clean. The bedding was excellent: mattress not too soft, not too hard, pillows - puffy, blanket - not too cold, not too hot (though both synthetic). Nice view from the windows on the top floors. WiFi - OK. Relatively silent (but there were no so many visitors)

The Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was easy and secure parking on site which we liked. Breakfast was of a high standard with a good selection of foods to choose from. The Hotel was close to the centre of Leiden and also the station. We recommend that if you wish to travel to Amsterdam you use the train as it is an easier option than driving and having to park.
