Hotel & Apartments Fürstenhof am Bauhaus, hotel in Weimar

Offering spacious rooms and apartments and varied breakfast buffets, this family-run hotel in Weimar is a 5-minute walk from the Goethe National Museum.

There were a wide variety of items at the breakfast buffet for every taste. The location was just outside the historic district, but easily in walking distance to all local sights in Weimar. Some attractions such as the cemetery where Goethe is buried, is right next to the hotel. The train station is a bit of a hike, but no problem for anybody with two healthy legs. The room interior was nothing special, but fit for purpose for a 2-3 day stay.

Hotel Kaiserin Augusta, hotel in Weimar

This historic, 3-star Superior hotel features a classic-style restaurant with a terrace. It lies directly opposite Weimar Central Station and a 10-minute walk from the historic city center.

We really enjoyed our 4 nights at the Kaiserin Augusta. The location just across the square from the station is very convenient. It's a fairly pleasant 15 minute walk into the centre of town, or you can hop on a bus. In many towns/cities the area around the station is dirty and seedy - this is not the case in Weimar where it is quiet and clean and pleasant. The room was spacious and comfortable, with an extra chair and table to sit by, and well designed furniture. The windows opened and there was a radiator you could control. The shower was brilliant. The foyer area of the hotel is spacious and welcoming and there was a room where we could leave our luggage until check-in time. The breakfasts were really delicious. We hadn't booked any in advance but ended up having breakfast every day. We also ate our evening meal in the hotel restaurant twice, the main courses were very good (Thüringer beef and dumplings for example), the desserts less so. The staff at the hotel were lovely. The terrace by the restaurant didn't seem to be open yet for the summer, and when we asked we were told we couldn't sit there because it hadn't been cleaned. The next morning, the same member of staff was out there with a bowl of soapy water scrubbing the tables and chairs so that we could sit out there after breakfast with our coffee. What excellent service!

FAQs about hotels in Weimar

German Cultural Heart

Weimar is not only a charming town in central Germany, but it has also been an important cultural centre for almost 3 centuries. Home to artists like Goethe, Schiller, Liszt, Bach and Strauss, the city's legacy is only comparable to the beauty of its idyllic surroundings.

It was between 1758 and 1828, during the regencies of Duchess Anna Amalia and her son Duke Carl August, that the town became the capital of German Enlightenment. In 1919, it saw the founding of the Bauhaus movement by Walter Gropius, and the sessions of the Constitutional Assembly of the so-called Weimar Republic.

It has numerous places that have been listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites, and it was the European Capital of Culture in 1999. Some of the best Weimar hotels are located in the south, particularly near the German National Theatre, Goethe’s house, and the City Palace.

The city is also famous for its ‘Onion Market’, held every year in October. If you’re planning to come to Weimar during the festival, check the hotel availability with enough time in advance.

The local railway station has express lines linking to Frankfurt, Dresden and Berlin. The nearest airports are Erfurt Airport and Leipzig/Halle Airport. Whether you’re looking for cheap accommodation or 5-star hotels, check out the Weimar deals on Booking.com!

I loves the atmosphere in the city of Weimar, full of culture and magic. Its streets and squares are just beautiful. The “Park an der Ilm” is a wonderful place to relax, walk and feel a bit more of the cultural spirit of Weimar with Goethe’s Gartenhaus and Franz Liszt’s house as well as many other monuments and statues. The nature is amazing there, definitely a place of inspiration for poetry and music. My favourite city in Germany!

Historically really remarkable city for Germany and entire world! Given its fame I expected it to be much larger than it is now. But still enjoyed the city with places and houses, where many great composers, poets, and philosophers used to stay.

I didn't do justice to Weimar's historic sites, largely as I commuted several times to a nearby city for other matters. The park along the Ilm river is definitely worth a visit; at its far end (looking from the city), the bee museum is a pleasant place that may be especially worthwhile for families with kids. The museum for prehistoric history of Thuringia was also a worthwhile stop. The nearby expansive historical cemetery is a good destination for those who generally have an appreciation for such places. Distinguished families, some of whose surnames may be well-known to visitors with relevant background, have their final resting places, sometimes in a row, at the edge of the cemetery and I think also elsewhere. The area near the railway station (still south of it) has some nice spots. I especially liked a bakery there. Prices lower than in my hometown, and very good bread and rolls. This suggests to me generally that even in a city with many tourists, it is not bad to look at the more quiet areas (which are still in easy walking distance from the main drawcards of the city in the case of Weimar) to get a smile and perhaps to save a few coins. One may even get advice on what to do! If you depend on supermarkets while traveling, it may be worthwhile locating them early on before or during your trip and to be aware that they may close at 9pm (not all do though).

All the museums provide audio guides, some of them are with free entrance. Everything is located in walking distance to each other. One needs at least 2 entire days to visit all the museums without exploring nice nature or park. A (entire) 3 days trip would be perfect!

Weimar is a great small city packed with history and I certainly could have done with another day or two there. There is plenty for fans of classic German history (Schiller and Goethe) plus more modern times (Weimar Republic, New Weimar and Bauhaus for example) and everything is walkable. Also the Germany Bee Museum!

The location is PERFECT! Not more than a 10 minute walk from all the attractions in Weimar. A nearby parking space at cost (€12 daily) is available. Excellent food options within walking distance. The very old building is in good condition and the furnishing matches. Apartment No.4 has a small, but fully equipped kitchen (bring ground coffee for a drip coffee maker and milk). It was chilly outside during our March stay, but the heating was good and warmed the apartment quickly despite the high ceilings.

Hotel has a very special and a really unique ambient and flair. Photos shows on webpage were real. I travel frequently and have rarely found such a good place. Large room nice with terrasse, very quiet. I rarely write such reviews, but the young and extraordinary team deserves highest recommendations. For example, the Weimar taxi did not show up and they just gave me a ride to the train station.
