The town is full of historic buildings and sites, and the surrounding area is stunning and interesting. Being a significant stop on the El Camino Santigo adds to vibrancy. The viticulture and grape industry is beautiful in the surrounding region, and in a very short distance you can be lost in a myriad of very old rural villages.

Villafranca del Bierzo is an amazing town, full of history...
Villafranca del Bierzo is an amazing town, full of history and with beautiful historic buildings. It is truly an enchanted medieval town in the path of the french Camino de Santiago. We arrived for the town’s celebration of their patron: “El Cristo de la Esperanza”. The “Ayuntamiento” organized a lot of activities, a fair, concerts until late night, wine tasting and tapas. It was memorable. The town is in the UNESCO list of historic places. The Church of Santiago with Las Puertas del Perdon, the church of San Nicolas, La Colegiata, the church of San Francisco have been built centuries ago and are witnesses of the history of the town. These buildings are artistic representations of other times and tell you about the glorious past of Villafranca del Bierzo and its vibrant present. The food is delicious.

Good central location and small terrace with view to a church on the hill above. Compact apartment well-equipped and comfortable. Parking is not easy nearby but there’s plenty up near the Tourist Office. The host was friendly and was at the apartment within a few minutes of phoning him when we arrived.

We spent only one night in Villafranca as we were walking the Camino de Santiago. Nestled between mountains, this is definitely one of the most beautiful towns we passed through, and there were many lovely ones. Points of interest include La Puerta del Perdón and Plaza Mayor. Puerta del Perdón Restaurant served us one of the best meals we had on our entire trip. Villafranca is in the famous Bierzo wine region, so don't miss trying the wonderful wines!

Wonderful small village with a lot of history and points of interest for those interested in culture, history and religion. It has a castle, several palaces, churches and monasteries from 12-16th century.
Take the chance to enjoy the wine with the designation of origin of Villafranca!

I am a pilgrim walking along Camino de Santiago.
I am a pilgrim walking along Camino de Santiago. Camino Santiago is going through Villafranco-del-Bierzo. Yo can have rest and good meal at any cafe or restaurant here. They are always ready for pilgrims. The town has special signs for those who walks along Camino, so yes, it is easy to walk around. There are many churches there, a castle and a very beautiful garden which dates back to the 17th century.

Excellent hotel located on the central plaza. Sparkling clean room with nice decor, great bathroom with shower, hairdryer, makeup mirror, and soft-close toilet seat. Great lighting in the room, air-conditioning is easily controlled in room (unlike some hotels where you can’t really adjust thectemperature), laundry service (fee) was convenient, quick, and well-done. Breakfast (fee) was nice - breads, ham, cheese, cereals, fruits, juice and yogurt, postre. Good variety of restaurants just outside the door on the central square
The hotel is on the edge of the old town in a quiet location. It's a modern building but very nicely built to recall some of the features of a much older building. The rooms are lovely and the dining room, bar and sitting rooms and terraces are all very nicely laid out. The service is friendly and attentive. The food in the dining room and the selection of local dishes and wines is excellent. I was walking the Camino with my son and we found it a very convenient stop-over and added a bit of luxury to our trip.
Although the lodging is outside the historic center, it is very convenient, especially if you are traveling towards Lugo, since the bus stop is just a few steps from the hostel. On the other hand the rooms and bathroom are clean and in good condition. The breakfast is very good, to start a day in this small town! Overall I really enjoyed my stay in this area. The historic center is only a 5 or 6 minute walk away and very close to the hotel. Also, if it is a hot day, there is a spa less than 5 minutes away.
Elias and Humberto are the very best of hosts! The apartment is very beautiful with a great patio overlooking the mountains. We planned a rest day here, but we stayed extra due to the illness of one of our group. Our hosts were the most helpful getting us to a hospital, providing a car, and letting us stay an extra night as we needed. The apartment is in a great location, many bars right outside your door and located in Plaza Mayor. So so glad we found this place!
Room was delightful with a comfortable bed, lovely en-suite and good temperature in the room thanks to the aircon.
Breakfast was a simple Continental breakfast but served in style with great service for coffee and other requests.
Located in a delightful part of Villafranca del Bierzo just on the Calle del Agua.
The ladies on the reception desk were wonderfully helpful, perfect receptionists.
This was my favorite place during our entire time in Spain. The hotel was unassuming on the outside, but absolutely lovely inside. Danni was amazing. He is so passionate about his place, his work and his guests, it shows in everything he does. He was a delight to interact with, and welcomed us with open arms. I can’t say enough positive things about our experience here.
Personally, I found the logging full of business-class conveniences, from m their cafeteria to their showers. Staff are willing to help in your stay and even can coordinate special requests if any. If you are a El Camino pilgrim and want a straightforward hotel experience without dealing with hassles of boutique lodging, this is your place.
The room was tidy, cozy and very well equiped.
The hotel is on top of a hill so the landscape is beautiful.
The owner made me feel super confortable, I enjoyed the conversation and the atmosphere of such a special place.
I am really looking forward to come back.
The property was perfectly located, on the river and on the Camino path. I was greeted warmly and provided and early check in. My room was warm and clean. It wad delightful. I then enjoyed a light lunch at the restaurant.
Easy to find. Super clean. Big bright room and bathroom. Lady working there was lovely. No food but gorgeous meal in restaurant at bottom of the street. Very handy to Camino route.
I'm so pleased I stayed in this hotel.
No breakfast was included. The location was wonderful—in shadow of castle and close to plaza. Luis was very accommodating. We are biking Camino and being able to store bikes on patio made it easy.
Beautiful old, athmospheric monastery with large wide corridors and lovely spacious rooms. Staff were very pleasent. Very near town center on the camino. Convenient laundry facilities in hotel
Clean, easy access to the Camino, bar on one side and restaurant at the end of the street, great innkeeper. Also, property has laundry (between floors), fridge, and microwave (on top floor).
