This is not only a wonderful location in terms of being on the cathedral grounds, it is also right in the middle of Canterbury, & everything is within a few minutes walk. Great breakfast, lovely helpful staff & we had a beautiful view from our room. The filtered water in the back foyer on the ground floor was great too.
We attended a couple of different services at the cathedral & loved it.

The property is straight across from The Marlowe Theatre where I was attending a show. Rooms are well presented and have everything that I needed. (Apart from a plug for sink/bath) I have stayed before in a different room and not sure if it had plugs either. A shame to have a bath that you can’t use and shower has to be held up so didn’t get showered till I returned home next morning. Reported to reception that there was no plug on leaving.

Canterbury’s religious and historic significance has inspired literary greatness. Chaucer’s ‘Canterbury Tales’ were based on pilgrimages to the bygone shrine of Thomas A Becket, who was murdered here. The Marlowe Theatre is named after the 16th-century playwright born here, and the Canterbury Museum has an exhibit on Rupert Bear, whose author lived in this River Stour city.
River cruises and punting provide fantastic views of the striking weavers’ houses right on the water, and of Westgate - the UK’s largest city gate. Other sections of the city walls remain, and there are also ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey, named after the 6th-century saint who brought Christianity to England. He was the first Archbishop of Canterbury, but the modern-day seat is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed cathedral, dating to the 12th century.
From the same period are the Norman castle ruins, occupying the site of a wooden fort constructed by William the Conqueror. The mound they sit on in Dane John Gardens is thought to be a Roman cemetery, and an original mosaic is visible in the Roman Museum.
In the Buttermarket half-timbered houses and historic inns are interspersed with shops, and big name brands line the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. The Canterbury accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap hostels and city centre B&Bs.

Canterbury is an historic city, as such is easy to get around ancient streets, very intimate centre. For me the Lovely Cathedral is the jewel in the crown, and from the Hampton by Hilton Hotel is a few minutes walk, I could see the Spires from room windows.. This hotel has a rooftop restaurant and the views from there are spectacular, I went for a look.
As I travel alone I usually eat at M&S Cafes or similar, and if I need anything else take back sandwiches to hotel. I can recommend Canterbury for a visit, I got train from London St, Pancras to Canterbury West Station, hotel 10 mins walk or Taxi £7,00.

The city abounds with areas to discover...take the time, walk, it will be rewarding. We used local bus services to visit the local region...Deal, Sandwich, Dover and Folkstone...fabulous!
We discovered that Good Friday was the best day to see the Cathedral because litugically it is an empty space that day...but it was being prepared for BBC broadcasts and hence was fully open. The surrounds are worth some time also.

The Cathedral is awesome.
The Cathedral is awesome. Plenty of places to eat and drink....the Cafe du Soleil stood out the food was very good and the staff where friendly & professional. We loved walking around Canterbury, lots of green spaces, side roads that led you on, our stay was too short so we didn't find anywhere that we would avoid.....we'll just have to go back!

Enjoyed the historic buildings and the lovely cricket ground which was the reason for our visit.
We ate at a variety of places - good pub (The Two Sawyers), a turkish restaurant A la Turka and the Weavers.
Canterbury was compact and good to walk around.
Only have to avoid the numerous food delivery cycles

Canterbury is one of those rare British cities that has...
Canterbury is one of those rare British cities that has retained its character as it somehow escaped being wrecked by appalling postwar planning decisions. The relatively few modern buildings, like the Marlowe Theatre, are of high quality, at least from the outside. It's a comfortable size to stroll around (and flat) plus it has the two arms of the river to add interest and the opportunity to punt or take a boat tour. Hard to say whether there are more pubs or churches - there are lots of both, so if you don't want to pay for entry to the cathedral there are other historic buildings to see. Didn't bother with the shopping centre so can't pass judgement on its value as a place for shopping - there'll be the usual boring 'high street' chains, no doubt; I did notice a few independent shops in the High Street as well. The tea shops we came across are insanely expensive so are probably best avoided if you're on a budget. We ate at The Old Weaver's House and had a superb meal - their pies are worth a trip to Canterbury alone! The Beaney House museum etc looks interesting and is free - we just explored the front room which has some fine 19th century paintings. Probably worth a more detailed investigation on another visit.

Canterbury Cathedral was beautiful they was lot of facts about Medieval England. I went Westgate Garden 🪴the flower was stunning to look at. It was peaceful look at the scenery
Canterbury Cathedral had old Architecture and old ruins to stunning artifact of such beauty.
Really enjoyed our stay in Canterbury Cathedral lodge. Very nice clean hotel with views from your window of the cathedral. Really nice that even after the cathedral grounds are closed to the public, with your key card to your room, you can get access to the cathedral grounds through the main gate to walk as you will. Kind of fun at night after hours. Front desk staff girls were excellent. Very informative and helpful. Had to park off site, but it was a short, easy walk through the interesting city streets. Excellent breakfast.
The location could hardly be better for visiting Canterbury. It is only a ten-minute walk to the city centre. Another big positive is that there is ample parking for anyone arriving by car. The building is a beautiful 14th century timber-frame construction, that is now a restaurant on the ground floor with hotel accommodation above, entered by a separate door so that guests don't have to walk through the dining area to get to bedrooms. There is no breakfast service, but there are plenty of cafes nearby.
Location was amazing, close to the town centre but far enough away that there was no traffic or noise.
Room was perfect, bigger than expected. Ticked all the boxes for a B&B and the bed was super comfortable.
Great choice of food for breakfast. Staff were accommodating and friendly, nothing was too much trouble.
The back garden was lovely and peaceful, a nice additional feature to have that most hotels don't think about. Look forward to out next trip to Canterbury!
Location - excellent in Canterbury city centre.Parking available right outside hotel - there were still spaces available the night I stayed.
I inadvertently paid twice. The hotel contacted me promptly and refunded the over-payment.
Friendly staff.Room clean, quiet and comfortable.Good continental breakfast delivered to room due to coronavirus restrictions.
The room we had was large, and very comfortable. The property was on 15 minutes from the town centre and the Cathedral. Great place for exploring the area. The continental breakfast was good. We found the staff helpful and very friendly. When we have the opportunity to return to Canterbury, we will use the Castle House Hotel again.
An old style hotel but we ended up in the 'newer' accommodation at the back of the hotel. Nothing available in the original hotel. Reasonably close to the old centre of Canterbury so an easy walk into town. Staff very helpful with information on what to see and do. A very good breakfast was provided.
The staff were very available and friendly. The breakfast was great. There was enough parking and the hotel was a short walk into the city centre. The pool was great! Our room was spacious and comfortable. The shower pressure was weak but it was nice to also have the option of a bath.
The hotel is located about 3 miles from Canterbury centre with no bus service. There is however a park and ride at Wincheap for £4/day with very frequent bus service into town centre.
The breakfasts at the hotel are excellent and the dinner menu good value for money.
fantastic location - a few minutes walk from the city centre and close to the canterbury city centre coach stop. The breakfast was excellent ( personal service and not buffet style), the room is clean, spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
A well presented hotel where many of the original features have been retained.
Friendly and helpful staff.
On site parking in mature gardens.
A tasty breakfast that was cooked for me individually.
A10/15 minute walk into Canterbury city centre
- great location. The city centre is across the road from the property. The property isn’t far from Canterbury East station. The area is so diverse that they have an Asian grocer and corner shop.
- friendly people.
-love the decor.
Nice flat in a quiet block. Excellent location within walking distance of the centre of Canterbury. Lovely comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable seating area. Parking is a real bonus especially in Canterbury.
The property was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a stay. Lovely decor and lots of tech . Comfy beds and a 1 minute stroll to the centre of Canterbury. Lots of interesting buildings and lots of shops
The variety of breakfast options was very good, with vegetarian and vegan options available. The city centre location was excellent, the hotel is just behind the main shopping area and just off the High Street.
Excellent location in the centre of town. Brand new hotel. Comfortable beds, clean spacious rooms. Breakfast good, plenty choice. Staff friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.
Breakfast was excellent best part of our stay, room was ok, bed was comfortable and bathroom was very clean,
also hotel was in a great location for visiting Canterbury.
