Cascais is a small city located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Once a fishing village and defence outpost, the royalty transformed it into a stylish summer resort. Mixing beautiful beaches, elegant mansions, imposing fortifications, and a wide variety of hotels, Cascais is a great option for every season.
King Luís II used the city as his summer residence from 1870 to 1908, attracting other celebrities, and changing the destiny of the tranquil village forever. Modern roads and railway lines linking to Lisbon and Sintra were built, as well as a casino and other facilities. Some of the best hotels and 5-star resorts in Cascais date back to these times.
Nowadays, the town is a cosmopolitan beach retreat along the Estoril Coast, where people from Lisbon and other Portugal cities come for a day or weekend escapade. Many foreign tourists prefer its more relaxed hotels over the sometimes hectic Lisbon atmosphere.
Don’t miss the Citadel, rebuilt during the 16th century in a typical star-shaped Renaissance style. Other attractions include the Museum of the Sea and the ‘Paula Rego House of Stories’.
Beach hotels are the gem of Cascais and you can find a wide range on Booking.com. Check your availability with enough time in advance, as the city remains a popular summer destination.

The hotel Vila Gale is approximately a 10 minute walk from Cascais centre where the restaurants and bars are. It was a great hotel for the pool as not many in Cascais have a large pool like this hotel does. It was great having use of the electric scooters to get to and from the hotel. Bring cash as a lot of the shops are cash only!

It's an amazing, vibrant city close to Lisbon.
It's an amazing, vibrant city close to Lisbon. It has it's charm, felt very cozy, with nice people, beaches, coastal walks and other cities, such as Sintra nearby. We've also went to Cabo da Roca, the most western part of continental Europe and the views are spectacular!

Our initial plan was to stay 2n and move to the next town, but we stayed for extra 3n in Cascais. It's a lovely, very vibrant city full of various attractions, restaurants and nice people. We visited beaches, rented a bicycle. The city has very easy connection with Lisbon, about 45min train ride. You can feel there's a lot of wealth in the city, and the quality of stay here is very high. Highly recommended.

I am very disappointed.
I am very disappointed. The apartment is nothing like the photos...old and smelly. Very low maintenance to the property. There was a mole at the bathroom and a lot of Flys at the bath and washroom. The smell was awful of some very harsh cleaning liquid mixed with mole smell. They just took a very poor condition apartment and painted everything in white but it is still old and smelly ...painted the mole as well but you could still see and smell it

I love Cascais!
I love Cascais! There are many things to do here and nearby locations too. Great restaurants, shopping, beautiful parks, nature walks, cafes, museums, outdoor markets and not far from Cascais are the palaces of Sintra and even a Moorish castle. There is a train station in Cascais with trains that go directly into Lisbon in about 25 minutes. Without hesitation i recommend a visit to this beautiful city. I think you will love it too!
The bed was comfortable, the outdoor pool was heated (which was good because the weather was raining and 15 degrees, but we were still able to swim!), and the breakfast was probably one of the best we had on our trip (I think this was due to the fact that it was more of a 'boutique' hotel setting than a larger hotel so there were better quality items available). The staff were all very lovely and kind. The room didn't have a fridge, but they let me store my medicine in the fridge in the kitchen.
This was the best choice for my family and friends. We wanted to have some rest along with doing some touristy stuff live visiting Sintra and exploring Lisbon. Perfect family location for this kind of trip. The Casa Vela staff were simply wonderful to us, very friendly and helpful. We made sure to savour the mornings in the beautiful garden. The taxi service was absolutely perfect. My family loved it. Highly recommend Casa Vela to anyone and we all hope to be back there one day.
This was our first hotel in Portugal and it was perfect. The building itself is really cool - hard to describe but essential a modern, clean, white hotel integrated into an ancient fortress. It's uphill from the town, but only a few minutes walk. We loved walking to town and the marina area, as well as around the citadel. We weren't sure whether or not to stay in Cascais but I'm really glad we did. Very good breakfast, overlooking the harbor. Exceeded our expectations
The location is excellent right on the beach while also in the centre of the town - the location is excellent. The staff was very helpful and courteous, with a nice pool and sunbathing area, and the breakfast is excellent. However, what lets the hotel down is the ensuite bathroom is tired and appears dirty. The bathroom needs refurbishment which is disappointing as this is not a cheap hotel. They provide a complimentary drink on arrival and a turn down service.
The hotel was perfect for viewing the water, and walking to restaurants, shops, bakeries, museums, marina, beaches, and anything else you wanted to see. The breakfast was amazing! It had anything you wanted from fruit, pastries, eggs, meat, coffee, juice, pancakes etc. We also enjoyed the rooftop lounging area. We enjoyed a cocktail and swam in the pool one afternoon. I have no complaints.
Breakfast was delicious but very important to arrive early because it gets crowded around 9am. The hotel grounds and proximity to Cascais were perfect. Also Michael at the front desk was very helpful throughout our stay and recommended alternative transportation for my mom and I to Fatima that saved us both time and money. Thank you! We hope to be back again!
Breakfast was really good! The hotel room was very clean and the staff was always available. We (two teen girls travelling alone) felt very safe and comfortable. The hotel is very close to the train station and it’s easy to reach Lisbon in about 30 minutes by train. The location was great, in the centre of Cascais, everything at walking distance
Quiet, nicely decorated, clean, with welcoming staff. Great location. Truly "boutique" parking :) - behind the hotel, accessed through a labyrinth of narrow streets. Nice restaurant and breakfast area, but breakfast itself is unremarkable. Overall, we are very pleased with our stay; if we ever visit Cascais again, we'll try to stay here again.
Great staff location is 5 minutes walk to marina and the town centre , lovely views over the sea. We loved they had a big cycle lane along front of the hotel where you could run and cycle beside the cliff / sea (this is a big advantage over other 5 star hotels in the area). The pool and property were beautiful .
We absolutely loved our stay at the Hotel Baia. It deserves way more than three stars - what a wonderful location for a holiday in Portugal. Cascais is a lovely town with easy links to get to Lisbon and explore further.
Great location and small scale boutique hotel. Rooms new and of high quality. Breakfast in the covered garden was fantastic, including the on demand service and home baked cake. Friendly staff and quiet environment
This hotel is one of the nicest I've ever stayed in. The view from the pool area is stunning. Our room was fabulous. The location for the beach or enjoying walking around Cascais is perfect. Overall a perfect stay.
The beautiful rooms, the bar, the restaurant and helpful staff make this historic hotel extra special. Love the location on the beach and views. Easy Uber ride to the center of Cascais. I will definitely return.
We love the position of the hotel, as it is close to our family who live in Cascais. We visit Portugal about 5 times a year
Staff are friendly.
Hotel room clean.
Breakfasts are good.Cannnot comment on other meals.
Fabulous beds!!! I have stayed in 5 star hotels that did not have the same quality beds. very help, personable staff, nice interiors and a very healthy, local breakfast bar with many house made treats.
It’s very cost hotel in excellent location in Cascais. 5 min from train station to Lisbon. 5 min from the beach. 2-5 min from best restaurants in Cascais. It was great pleasure to stay in this hotel
Elegantly designed hotel, very modern, great location, the best breakfast, highly attentive team- special shout out to Diego for being the most wonderful breakfast host!
