A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. The location, room, garden has awesome atmosphere- I loved the meditation session and the fire ritual! We stayed for two nights and took evening cemetery tour which was informative and mysterious at the same time! Dinners are superb! I booked family room for two of us and it was great and spacious. I would recommend this place for anyone interested in Buddhism or with appreciation of esoteric teachings. Staff is caring and attentive!

It was my first time staying in a temple. The whole experience was excellent (meditation, morning ceremony and homa ceremony). The monks were very helpful. Everything was very clean. My stay was during winter and my room was heated, which made it comfortable. The food (dinner and breakfast) was great.

The staff was very friendly, but most of them spoke very little English. There was some confusion with getting dinner for the evening as it was not included in my reservation. So if you want breakfast or dinner, snd it is not included in your reservation, make sure to tell them you want it as soon as you check in. It was a wonderful experience to stay there! Make sure you go to the Fire ceremony, which was at 1 pm daily. It is free.

Shirahama no Yado Daigo terletak di Shirahama, berjarak 200 meter dari pantai Shirahama dan 1,2 km dari pantai Ezura. Akomodasi ini menawarkan Wi-Fi gratis di seluruh areanya. The hostess (who's also the owner) was a very nice and friendly person. Breakfast was complimentary and the hostess even made breakfast by herself to guests every morning and it was delicious! The room is equipped with tatami floor and was super clean. There was no bed but instead futon was provided and you need to set it up by yourself at night which was interesting. It was a special experience to get a chance to sleep in a Japanese futon. If you don't know how to set it up they will help you too. The bathroom is big and equipments were new. The hotel is within 5 minutes walk to the beach. It's also close to a bus stop which takes you to surrounding sightseeing places. There are convenient store and supermarket within walking distance and you can buy fireworks there to play at the beach at night. If we come back to Shirahama in the future we will choose to stay here again.

Our room was beautiful, it was such a peaceful setting, and the meditation and chanting made it a really special and unique experience.

Host was very welcoming and accommodating. Helped us secure our bicycles, gave us a short tour, explained the onsen inside and the river onsen as well. Recommended a great place for dinner and served a fantastic Japanese breakfast. Slept in a traditional Japanese room, it was very comfortable. The place has a small cozy bar/breakfast nook. Had some Sake and chatted with the host for a night cap.

Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. Koyasan is a beautiful area and well worth staying a night. Saizenin is stunningly appointed and the morning prayer was a very spiritual experience. It's right opposite an amazing temple complex which is so busy during the day but you have it to yourself in the evening when the day trippers have left. The monk cadet school is just up the road and being woken at five in the morning with their beautiful mass chanting was also a totally unique experience. The textures of the traditional vegan Shojin Ryori food are difficult for Western tastes, even for those accustomed to Japanese cuisine. But I admire that they have strictly upheld their traditions and have refused to adapt to the potential demands of their foreign visitors. It's an experience.
